Jon Fratelli

Band Members: Jon Fratelli (singer-songwriter, lead guitar), backing band from Codeine Velvet Club.

Our Recommendations: Unfortunately Jon Fratelli has yet to release his album! You can check out his Myspace page for songs from his new upcoming album! Also, you can download all of the songs from his previous projects The Fratellis, and Codeine Velvet Club. Definitely check out "Flathead" and "Chelsea Dagger" (by the Fratellis) and "Vanity Kills" and "Hollywood" (by Codeine Velvet Club). Download these FREE here.

Who he is: Before the Fratelli's, Jon's history is little know. In 2005, Jon Fratelli (then "Jon Lawler") answered an advert in a music shop by drummer Gordon McRoy who promised and "opportunity of a lifetime". This turned out to be true. The rise of the Fratellis threw Jon Fratelli into the spotlight. In 2007, when the band was promoting its debut album and playing Coachella, Jon Fratelli was too tired of the tour and the promotion so he fled back home to Glasgow. After releasing a few EPs and their second full album, in 2009 the band went on hiatus pursuing their own independent projects.

In 2008 Jon Fratelli joined forces with the adorable Lou Hickey forming the Codeine Velvet Club. In 2009 they released their debut album Codeine Velvet Club and toured world-wide. In 2010 they disbanded, and since then Jon Fratelli has been working as a solo artist (with the backing band from Codeine Velvet Club). His solo album is due to be released early 2011, though he has released only individual songs and Has already planned tour dates (which included SXSW 2011!).

Why we love him: Jon Fratelli is definitely a multi-talented musician. The songs that he writes are original and very catchy. The Fratellis and Codeine Velvet Club were a couple of extremely good bands and we are sad to see them go (though we are hoping that the Fratellis will have a reunion tour in a year or two).

Notable Albums:
  • Costello Music (2006) - debut album of the Fratellis
  • Codeine Velvet Club (2009) - debut album of Codeine Velvet Club
