Miniature Tigers

A Brooklyn-based band (originally from Phoenix): Miniature Tigers.

Our recommendations: If you have never heard the band before, we recommend listening to "The Wolf", "Bullfighter Jacket" (video below) and "Cannibal Queen". Download them HERE FREE.

Band Members: Charlie Brand (vocals/guitar/songwriter), Rick Schaier (drums/backing vocals),  Algernon Quashie (guitar/keyboard/vocals), Alex Gerber (bass/vocals).

Who they are:

In 2006, Charlie Brand formed Miniature Tigers in Phoenix, Arizona. Less than a year after their formation but before even releasing their first full studio album, Rolling Stone magazine listed Miniature Tigers as "one of the best bands of Myspace". They started to rise to a wider attention in 2008 after the release of their debut album, Tell It to the Volcano. While on tour promoting their album, Spin magazine called Miniature Tigers as one of "The 9 Hottest New Bands Playing CMJ 2008 [Music Marathon & Film Festival]"

Miniature Tigers left Arizona and moved to Brooklyn. There, they began to work on their new album, F O R T R E S S. Moving away from their acoustic-based pop sound and with a more experimental outlook towards their music, they recruited members from Neon Indians and the Morning Benders to help them produce their new material. They finished recording F O R T R E S S in upstate New York and released it in the summer of 2010.

Why we love them:

Miniature Tigers started off with just a guitar and a few vocals. The sound, though pop, was backed by an acoustic guitar giving them a catchy tune with a pleasant backdrop do go along with it. More recently they have incorporated more than just guitars and the music, the rhythms, the lyrics - have all gotten more complex while staying with a pop-rock based sound.
This is a band that will definitely cheer you up quickly.
